© On Christmas Eve children scurry amongst themselves in high anticipation of presents under the tree while setting up cookies and milk for Santa to have during his travels. There is a sort of angst and excitement for the next morning as they make sure that they are tucked away, some tracking Santa and his reindeer while others listen carefully for the sound of reindeer bells and Santa’s laughter. Christmas morning arrives with the promise of children running towards a tree in admiration as to what to see. Were the cookies eaten? Did he leave presents? But there is so much more to Christmas. What if we talked more about a babies arrival and less about Santa’s arrival? The true meaning of Christmas shines brightly as one reflects on the blessings of life being lived.
I began thinking about the importance of Jesus’ birth and its prominence to this holiday. While it is easy to get caught up in the decorations and the gift wrapping, it is essential to focus on what Christmas is indeed about and its meaning for us. As a result, I thought it would be fun to look into some interesting facts behind Christmas.
The three wise men followed the stars only to discover a baby boy. The story is best portrayed through Matthew 2:1-12. This states that King Herod sent the Magi to Bethlehem to follow the star and find baby Jesus. When the came to the house, they saw mother Mary with baby Jesus presenting gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Jesus came to this Earth fully human. He was tempted by sin; He felt emotions and needs while being omniscient.
There was no need for Him to do this. He humbled himself to feel what we feel. He walked upon this Earth and handled the what we felt…yes I am repeating myself. This is so incredibly amazing. It emphasizes His purity and His love for us, His children.
The bible states the following:
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.”
Colossians 1:15–
“This quote refers to His ranking, not the aspect of being created. This is a common misconception and basis for confusion which counteracts the importance of His presence on Earth.
And I will appoint him to be my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth”
Psalm 89:27–
“Jesus is the ultimatum. He represents the forgiveness of our sins because He lived on this Earth, from a baby, and He dealt with the same temptations that we do.”
The following information was received from https://www.whychristmas.com/customs/25th.shtml
Christmas is equivalent to the Mass of Christ (or Jesus).
There is debate as to why Christmas is celebrated on December 25th
A Christian tradition focuses on Mary being told about her baby on March 25; this being said Jesus would have been expected on/around December 25th. March 25th is connected to the death of Jesus’ death and the creation of the Earth.
The funny thing is that the shepherds kept their sheep on the hill. A Wintertime birth would indicate that the mountain may be snowy as this is a common attribute.
I hope you are enjoying the holidays while remembering the reason for the season!
God bless!
