Rest is Productive: Mindful Monday Journal Prompts

Rest is Productive: seven forms of rest: physical / emotional / social / creative / spiritual / social

Rest is Productive

Happy #MindfulMonday. This week we focus on: “rest is productive.” There are many forms of rest. What does rest mean to you?

Earlier this month, I discussed “making mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority” in honor of World Mental Health day. One of the seven tips I provided was the need to make time for different forms of rest. Last week, I focused on the importance of solitude, aligning directly with the importance of rest. You can read more about that here.

There are seven types of rest:

Rest is Productive
  1. physical: There are two forms of physical rest. The first is passive (sleeping). The second is active (movement)
  2. sensory: The need to unplug from your computer
  3. emotional: The need to release your emotions
  4. spiritual: The need for a greater purpose
  5. creative: The need to surround yourself with beauty
  6. mental: The need to clear your thoughts
  7. social: The need to yourself with positive people

It is so common to focus on hustle culture as a means to be successful without realizing that rest is a necessary part of creation. As we work on integrating wellness into our everyday habits, we can not dismiss the importance of rest and the impact that it has on our ability to be successful. Without rest, we become victims to the capitalistic mindset and allow ourselves to be impacted by burnout. Burnout causes us to feel even more behind. We become exhausted and sick, unable to use our free time in a productive way. The following questions help you determine what kind of rest you need.

Rest is Productive Journal Prompts

1. How do you schedule rest into your daily life?

2. How do you replenish when you feel tired?

3. What makes you feel energized?

In conclusion, one of the ways we can care for mental health is through rest. Creating space for rest is a game changer and allows for the realization that less is more. What kind of rest do you need? Feel free to share with me in in the comments below or message me on Instagram!
