Sometimes The Most Productive Thing You Can Do is Rest: Mindful Monday Journal Prompts

Happy #MindfulMonday, focusing on “sometimes the most productive thing you can do is rest”. Last week, I focused on the seven different forms of rest. To learn more about the different forms of rest, click here. This week, I am focusing on physical rest.

There are two forms of physical rest.

  • The first is active rest. Active rest is defined as movement that is less intense than your regular movement, such as walking.
  • The second type of rest is passive rest. Passive rest is defined as complete rest, such as a good nights sleep.

I have always had a hard time with the concept of resting. I am constantly thinking of the next thing to check off of my to-do list. While I think productivity is important, I never connected rest to productivity. Rest allows you to regenerate and it creates space for renewed energy. When I changed my perspective of rest to productive, my whole thought process shifted. I view rest as essential to my well-being. When I rest, I notice I feel so much better. Below, I listed forms of physical rest that I have used.

Some examples of passive rest include:

1. Laying on the couch

2. Napping

3. Taking baths

Some examples of active rest include:

1. Yoga

2. Stretching

3. Walking

  • Do you gain more energy when you rest passively or through movement?
  • Do you make sure to incorporate passive rest in your weekly schedule?
  • Do you make sure to incorporate active rest in your weekly schedule?
  • How would you feel if you incorporated these two forms of physical rest into your weekly schedule?

What can I say? Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is rest! I would love to hear more about your thoughts on physical rest!

Did you know that active movement was a form of rest!

I love the idea of distinguishing between passive and active rest – because we definitely need both of its form depending on our situation. I think even passively resting for a short period during the day, if needed, helps a great deal. Thank you for sharing! <3

I think with me I recharge best moving, but moving in the right direction.

I think all directions bring clarity! Even if it feels like it was the wrong direction, we have the awareness to redirect and learn from our actions!
