Mindfulness and Baking

Baking is a great way to practice mindfulness because it requires you to focus on the present moment. When you bake, you need to pay attention to the recipe, the measurements, the timing, and other aspects of the baking process. This forces you to stay in the here and now, rather than worrying about the past or future. Furthermore, baking can be a therapeutic activity, allowing you to relax, de-stress, and enjoy the creative process. By focusing on the task at hand, you can achieve a state of mindfulness, where you can let go of any negative feelings and simply enjoy the present moment.

The Science Behind Baking Cookies and Mindfulness

What is it about baking that makes you feel better? How does it affect your mental health? Baking helps you stay focused on the present moment. Many studies have shown that the act of baking can help relieve stress and anxiety and improve concentration.[1] You can also relieve stress by baking and eating cookies with your loved ones. Baking is one of the most therapeutic hobbies you can have, especially when you’re feeling stressed. It can be a great way to release endorphins and soothe your stress. Keep your stress at bay by baking cookies.

Let’s take a look at how your brain responds when you bake cookies.

Endorphins

  • Some studies have shown that the act of baking stimulates the production of a hormone called Endorphins. Endorphins are chemicals released by the brain during exercise and other activities. Studies have shown that when you bake a cookie, you release a few Endorphins, which can help calm you. This can have a positive effect on your mood and relieve stress.

Something to Look Forward To

  • When you bake cookies, you’re turning a simple food item into something magical and delicious. This process gives you something to look forward to, which can help keep you from feeling anxious. This can help reduce stress and anxiety and improve your mood and overall well-being.

Memory Improvement

  • Another benefit of baking cookies is that it improves your memory and attention span. A study conducted by MIT found that people who bake cookies are better able to focus and pay attention for longer periods of time. A study conducted by Harvard Medical School showed that baking cookies can improve our ability to learn new material. The study also found that people who baked cookies also performed better on a number of other memory tests. This suggests that baking can have a beneficial effect on your memory and can help you retain information more easily.
  • When you bake cookies, you’re engaging your brain in a creative activity. You take the time to sit down and make a cookie, which is a very enjoyable experience. This can also help increase your memory and improve your cognitive abilities.
  • Studies have shown that when you make a new food item, your brain is stimulated and challenged to think about creative ways to use that food. This can help improve your memory and help you recall information more easily. Plus, there’s no better way to spend an afternoon with your friends or family than baking cookies together.

Why I Choose Simple Baked Goods

Simple baked goods are great for many reasons. It’s quick prep time, allows you to have different options when on the run, and less ingredients typically means less unnecessary additives.

  • Processed foods are usually less healthy because they often contain a lot of artificial ingredients and additives. But when you bake your own cookies, you’re essentially using real ingredients and ensuring they’re as healthy as possible.
  • Plus, the satisfaction you get from making these foods is unparalleled.
  • Many of the foods you cook at home are much healthier than those found in the store because they are often packed with nutrients and antioxidants. These foods are also usually made with fresh ingredients rather than artificial additives and preservatives.
  • Another advantage of baking is that you can make as many batches as you like, saving money on processed foods. The final benefit of baking is that it improves your mental health and helps relieve stress.

So now that you know why you should bake cookies, let’s get started!

Thanks! Have you tried them before? They are great!

I have! Before I moved in December I made them! I forgot I did (a friend had shared) and then I saw your post! I remember thinking if I could add peanut butter or not? But then, would it need a flour of some kind? So that’s why I stuck to the 3 things! I used sugar free chocolate chips since I’m diabetic. Any additions I should try?

I haven’t tried adding PB before but I have looked into a similar recipe that includes PB. I’ll have to try it and let you know how it turns out! Goji berries sounds like a great addition. According to, https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/322693, “Goji berries may be helpful in controlling the release of sugar into the blood. Research from 2015 shows that goji berries balance insulin and glucose levels in the blood. The same study linked goji berries to increased HDL levels in people with type 2 diabetes. HDL is known as good cholesterol.” However, it may interact with certain medications. I would love to hear what you decide to try! Some of these items can be found in Walmart, TJ Maxx, or Marshals, as well!

Thank you so much! I’ve never eaten Goji berries before, but what great benefits! My apologies for late reply. I’ve been out of town and now gearing up for another treatment! Take care!

These are wonderful and perfect timing. For years I feared oatmeal because I thought it set off my ibs. But recently I’ve realised I’m ok with it and my issues were due to other food items, so definitely going to try the banana recipe this afternoon.
